Off-road Everest in aid of West Mercia Search and Rescue

In December 2021 I started volunteering with the West Mercia Search and Rescue team and have been blown away by the dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm of the volunteers.

It's a hard job and it's entirely funded by donations, these donations go to the operational costs of the service including equipment repair and replacement.

It is vital this service continues to do what it does.

The challenge!

On March 19th 2022, to raise money for WMSAR, I’m going to be riding my mountain bike, off-road up the side of a local hill over and over again until I surpass the height (above sea level) of Everest. That's 8849m, gained over 41 repeats of a 2.25km climb, which rises 221 metres with each ascent. This means, by the end of the ride I will have ridden 180kms (albeit half of it downhill) and will have climbed 9061m (I'm adding in one more ascent to be sure). To add to this I'll also be doing the challenge with just one gear on my bike (single speed), in winter and aim to complete the challenge in under 24hrs. That's got to be worth donating to hasn't it?
