The Clee Hills

The ride starts in the historic market town of Ludlow, well known for its vast culinary delights, the castle, its warren-like streets and its thriving market with artisan makers, bakers and everything else in between.

The ride takes in two of Shropshire’s biggest hills, namely Titterstone Clee and Brown Clee. The first on our agenda is Titterstone Clee which sits at 533m above sea-level. Titterstone is steeped in history and its plain to see, with its Iron Age fortifications running from it’s North West flank all the way round to its South-Eastern shoulder. On its southern side the hill has been gouged out to make way for its industrial usage of the past with nearly 100yrs of quarrying activity. Many of the reinforced concrete building still stand like monuments to its bustling past industrial usage.

After taking in the views of the surrounding area it’s time to switch to descent mode for a long twisty descent, keeping an eye out for any sheep as we make our way over to Brown Clee on a mixture of gravel and Singletrack. After climbing up to the high point for the day we’ll descend on a mixture of gravel track, mixed bridleways and tarmac which will take us all the way back into Ludlow.
